Entertainment For Your Mind

The Department of Languages and Communication is home to PVAMU TV, a professionally based broadcast experience designed to teach students the practices of film and television production.

Broadcast from the television studio in the historic Hilliard Hall, the mission of PVAMU TV is to offer mass communication majors with the lab experience of producing television and film content in preparation for careers in the entertainment and journalism industries.

In Fall 2018, PVAMU TV launched with five television programs, broadcast publicly via YouTube and housed on our dedicated website, www.PVAMUTV.org.

The current roster of programs includes the following student-run shows:  Panther News Network (daily world/ national/ local news); Panther Sports Zone (daily sports news); PV Round Table Talk (weekly panel discussion show); and Zone Four (weekly culture and entertainment show).

President Ruth Simmons sat with Senior Mass Communications major, Deandre Nicholson, host of “It’s About Time”, to discuss her experience as President of Prairie View A&M University on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Deandre interviewed award-winning photojournalist and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Journalism at the University of Southern California, Miki Turner , on October 24.

Many students serve in industry comparable roles such as Associate Producers, Assistant Producers, Directors, and other jobs, giving them the experience they will need to be competitive in the workforce when they graduate. PVAMU TV provides round the clock broadcasting of information based programming, live campus events and creative content such as short films, web series and documentaries.
